We’re excited to bring the annual Mystic Film Festival to the beautiful coastal New England towns of Mystic, Connecticut and Westerly, Rhode Island. Now in its 7th year, the festival will take place September 19th – 22nd, 2024, and deadlines for film and script submissions are quickly approaching.
This year, we have expanded our submissions categories for films and writing and are thrilled to share that our generous partners at Roadmap Writers will be awarding even more great opportunities to this year’ script winners.
If you think your film, screenplay, or stage play might be a fit, don’t miss the upcoming deadlines:

Volunteer Opportunities with the Mystic Film Festival

Mystic Film Festival is an annual event showcasing independent feature-length and short-form narrative films and documentaries from around the world. Our festival was created by area filmmakers to nurture local talent, to promote films made in Connecticut and New England, and to bring unique films to our community. The festival brings together a diverse group of filmmakers and audiences to explore ideas, discuss the filmmaking process, and celebrate creativity. Through engaging community events, panels and workshops, and film screenings by acclaimed and up-and-coming talent, the festival is a special experience for filmmakers and audiences alike.

Now celebrating its seventh year, the festival will take place September 19-22, 2024 at venues in Mystic, Connecticut and Westerly, Rhode Island. We open with a local premiere and close the festival with an awards event where the best film in each category is recognized. Also announced at the awards ceremony are the winners of the screenplay and teleplay competition.

We are looking for volunteers to assist us with festival preparations and during the festival in September. Internships begin as early as April 1st and run through September 30th. Remote/in-person duties include:

- Assisting executive team with festival logistics;
- Assisting team with social media marketing about upcoming film screenings and events;
- Distribution of postcards, flyers, and posters;
- Assisting team at screenings, workshops / panels and other events during the in-person festival from September 19th - 22nd;
- Assisting team at the Welcome Center located at Mystic Luxury Cinemas for filmmakers, screenwriters, and other pass holders;
- Assisting team with video production / editing for festival events;
- Assisting team with graphic design of various marketing materials;
- Post festival support as needed;
- Assisting team with Mystic Film Institute programs.

SCREENWRITERS WORKSHOP!

The Mystic Film Institute is hosting Janet Roach, the Oscar nominated screenwriter and renowned industry expert, for a series of three spring workshops designed to transform your approach to screenwriting. You are invited to enhance your craft with Ms. Roach, who welcomes writers of all stages of development.

The Workshops:

“The Hook”: Bridge the gap between theory and practice and learn the art of creating an opening sequence that captivates and holds your audience. Plus, understand why everything that follows depends on this critical foundation.

“Fulfilling Expectation and Maintaining The Element Of Surprise: Uncover the crucial obligations of Act III, learning to craft a finale that leaves your audience on the edge of their seats, merging external and internal stories seamlessly.

These classes will meet at Connecticut College campus in New London featuring Janet Roach best known for Prizzi's Honor (1985), Mr. North (1988). She lectures frequently on screenwriting with her personal passion and decades of experience in the world of filmmaking. She also taught for twenty years at the Columbia University School of the Arts Film Division.
